Materials engineering encompasses a wide range of highly exact and very specialized fields of science and technology. The aim of materials engineering is to gain a deeper insight into the structure of materials which are generally used in engineering structures and thereby to contribute to an enhanced safety of such structures. Among the many branches in which materials engineering plays an important role is engineering structures optimization. Such optimization results in simpler manufacturing processes, lower process costs, as well as other benefits.
