Materials Engineering

Technological node testing is a branch or materials engineering dealing with the status of materials and the degree of damage of materials resulting from the long-time operation of parts of manufacturing equipment.

Current research projects address the following topics:
  • Investigation into the structure changes and mechanical property changes resulting from long-term effects of heat (research projects within the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade Programme "Consortia" and within a project included in the EU 5th Framework Programme "XPECTION".
  • Investigation into corrosion phenomena in laboratory conditions (within the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade Programme "Consortia").
Practical output:
  • Assessment of the degree of degradation of the properties and microstructure of materials of technological units (steam lines, boilers, product lines) at the end of their planned service life and their further usability.
  • Assessment of the causes of operating damages of technological unit parts due to non-standard operating conditions (cause identification and recommendations for continued operation).
  • Optimization of the choice of materials and their heat treatment during reconstructions.
Examples of applications:
Storage tank Storage tank Vehicle fuel storage tank after a long time of use
Tank corrosion damage Tank corrosion damage Tank corrosion damage
Detail of a corrosion crack Detail of a corrosion crack Detail of a corrosion crack
Graph Hardness pattern measurement across a welded joint
