Materials Engineering

A wide area of expert activities aimed at finding the causes of initiation of defects in materials; causes of out-of-specification mechanical and physical properties of mechanical parts and products after a certain period of use; and related causes of failures. Recommendations for improvement.

UJP PRAHA staff members are authorized to perform expert activities based on certificates issued by ITI Praha , Nuclear Power branch.

Specific programmes:

Identification of the causes of fractures/cracks in used mechanical parts and products based on microstructure analysis, mechanical properties and fractographical analysis of fracture surfaces
Development of forensic expert opinions, also encompassing the nuclear power sector
Assessment of the causes of enhanced wear of mechanical parts
Assessment of the causes of out-of-specification properties of products, optimization of the choice of the material and its heat treatment
Materials certificates, also for the nuclear power sector

Identification of the causes of damage (development of cracks) of mechanical parts in operation (expert assessment contracts with various customers)
