Age management encompasses a comprehensive approach to in-service material status monitoring of mechanical equipment, operational data monitoring and recording, a system of periodical in-service inspections, complex probabilistic residual lifetime calculations and assessment of the risks of development of defects during continued operation.
In this area, UJP PRAHA is the coordinator of extensive research projects sponsored by the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, the EU Framework Programme and the Czech Grant Agency, in which the following institutions participate:
Among important innovations in age management concepts is the transition from conservative lifetime calculations to matematico-statistical / probabilistic approaches which are able to better and more accurately assess the status of components of large technological units and, while ensuring a lower risk of accident and higher level of safety, lead to appreciably longer equipment lifetimes.
For its excellent achievements in this area, UJP PRAHA earned the . "Industrie" prize within the "Czech Brain 2003" competition.
Examples of applications in the industry include:The jury of the renowned competition "Czech Brain 2003" granted the “Industrie” prize to Mr. Jiří Kudrman DrSc. in recognition of his contribution to the development and innovation of materials, computation methods and monitoring method for lifetime assessment of facilities in the chemical industry and power sector. Mr. Kudrman’s work contributes appreciably to lifetime extension of turbines and related facilities. The “Industrie” prize is sponsored by Transgas a.s.
